I wasn't going windsurfing today until a mate, Peter Goodchild rang to say he was at The Manor end so I took my kit down and we were on the water by 4 ish. We only had about 10 mph of onshore breeze but it was a lovelly afternoon - sunny and warm :) We reached to the River Deben and landed on the shingle bar and I remembered why I gave up racing many years ago - fed up of being beaten by lightweights as Peter on his huge volumed starboard phantom had the track back and was in the straps while I had to have the track forward and the plate down to get going !!! We reached back to the Manor and I had a sail on his phantom and what a top board it is to with a large tail making getting up and going easy, it could be sailed off the fin like a shortboard even upwind in light winds !!! I tried it with the track forward and the daggerboard down but it dosen't rail up like the older style longboards - so it needs getting used too - would love one but a £1000 is a bit out of my price range :( We then sailed to the Orwell and back to the Deben, then the breeze died so we called it a day. Looks like some good wind for the next few days and I am working :(
